 Why Netscape

Please feel free to read this information which explains how we do business.

This page is also an example of how large amounts of text can be placed on a page

FORMAT     OPTIONS
City Icon Text can be inserted into a two-column format for an appearance similar to a magazine.  Along with a sidebar, this can be a very attractive approach for viewing large amounts of information.

Providing an index in the sidebar can direct your customer/user to specific locations.  There are "links" placed in sidebar throughout this page that will take you back to our index.

Our "examples" have some effort placed towards appearance.  The blue-to-green fade in the sidebar probably does not look very clear unless your video card has the ability for a 24-bit or greater color palette.  Not only will this sidebar appearance become very attractive at 24-bit, all graphics especially photographs will appear very "realistic."

A drawback to higher resolution graphics used in my examples is increased download time.  We use techniques to minimize file sizes.  Graphics can still be large files which leave a user waiting while a page loads.  You owe it to yourself to run the highest color palette for clearest web browsing.  For Windows 95, this can be changed under: {Control Panel} {Display} {Settings} {Color wind}.  Your desktop size can be changed at this location also.

If Windows 95 is your operating system, you owe it to yourself to use QuickRes.  QuickRes is a Windows 95 add-on (one of several free Powertoys) that is available through Microsoft's web site.  Using QuickRes, display changes can be made without restarting windows!

Addition of a few icons to a page can provide color and create breaks in text.  The drawback to having a lot of information on one page (which can make the page very long) is a deterrent to some.  This page is not very long, but added features make it easy to navigate the page.

Potential problem: Using entire screen for text.  If a person has their screen at a high setting, (e.g. 1152x864) text can get spread out and change this page layout (to many navigational links).  A person using a screen setting of 640x480 may find an insufficient number of navigational links.  Sometimes, depending on type of information being delivered, it is better to have more pages (refered to as sequential) instead of more information on one page.

We used a fixed dimension on this page to avoid that situation.  Text is less than general guideline of 9 - 12 words per line.  It is set up for full screen view at 800x600 (worse-case) screen setting.

The "Top,"(Top- example) "Index," or "Top of Page" links are used for pages that are very long.  "Next" and "Previous" or Right(Right Arrow) and Left Arrows(Left Arrow) (stationary or animated) can be used for sequential pages. Sequential pages are typically identical except for information (generally provided by client to reduce costs!).  Sequential pages do not cost that much more than (if any in some cases) due to duplicity of layout.

We want you to have enough information to understand which type of page layout will be most useful for "your" readers.    Checklist

This type of page layout provides access to a fair amount of information on one page.  Navigational links such as Top- example in sidebar, directly over on left side, provide an easy return to index (contents).

VERSATILITY     COMPANY POLICY
With clients located throughout the USA, Balanced Resources has developed an ability to implement effective Web site designs based upon telephone conversations in combination with email-based design sessions alone.  Utilizing efficient communication skills and maintaining a close working relationship with each client, Balanced Resources continually proves that there are no barriers on the Internet.

Internet Successful "web site design" required very little planning in the Internet's beginning.  However, the Web has quickly matured into a viable commercial medium from which many regional, national or worldwide firms can benefit.  Balanced Resources is expert at working closely with each client during the design process and can complete your project within pre-established time lines while exceeding level of quality expected by your potential customers.

There are many different sized monitors and just as many different screen settings. We strive to keep a web page on the screen.  We dislike and attempt to avoid "side-scrolling."  Our definition of side-scrolling is when the "width" of a web page does not fit on a screen.  This cannot be avoided on "all" monitors.  We skillfully attempt to avoid side-scrolling as much as possible.

Handshake You do not pay "training costs" to our staff.  The time-clock stops whenever we encounter a problem that we cannot resolve without further knowledge.  We have the knowledge, skills, equipment, and software to deliver our product.  If we get stumped while working on your project, you can rest assured charges will not be incurred while we figure out proper procedures.

Our standard turnaround time is 30 working days.  The customer has some bearing for staying on schedule.  Customer must answer questions and complete reviews in a timely manner.  We can meet delivery timelines if customer can can coordinate project into their schedule.

We will not utilize any pornography in pages that we create.  We will not intentionally link to another site that has pornography at that site or advertises pornography.  Any "other" page you want a link to from your page will be reviewed.  We will notify you and let you know: (1) the link (web page) is current and accessible; and (2) If we find pornographic material shown or advertised at that site.  We can not be responsible for future activity on someone else's site.  You or someone in your company must review "links" every so often to assure they are still active and have the type of material you want your customers to see.  Remember, a link is percieved as an endorsement, recommendation by your company.

PAGE LAYOUT     WHY NETSCAPE IS USED
Top of Page
Top
The pages at this site are designed to provide you with examples of different page designs.  You will notice that each of our web pages at this site are "unique."  Most people like to have one, or maybe two, general page design lay-outs that are replicated throughout their site.

Since most people provide us with "text" that is used in pages, we do not need to be paid to do your typing.  Although that is a service that can be included if necessary. We don't want to waste your money!
Since each page on our site has custom graphics with complex lay-outs, some have as-many-as eight-hours of time into each page.  Blending a faded colored "graphic" into a faded colored "background (sidebar)" takes a lot of set-up and graphic design time.  Most pages that people want are not this complex.

A web page can query a database, perform calculations, basically do any function of a computer.  Our programming abilities are limited to simple CGI scripts.  We work very closely with a company that specializes in providing programming solutions via the internet, Model InSights.  We will put you in touch with them if your project requires that type of service.

We hope this web site gives you an idea of our abilities so that we can create pages that fit your needs.  Please feel free to drop us an e-mail to give you an estimate for creating your web pages.

Graphic Design We do quite a bit of our page lay-out in "tables." This page probably does not appear lined-up properly if you are viewing it with Explorer 3.x.  Tables allow text and graphics to be located virtually anywhere on a page.  Web pages are written in HTML 3.2 language, then appearance verified through "web browsers."  Web browsers used to check appearance are Netscape 4.0x and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01.  Both of these programs view tables written in HTML language slightly differently!  We can usually insert a "tag" that works in both programs.  Whenever there is a compromise between the two programs, we default to Netscape.

We are not able to blend a faded colored "graphic" into a faded colored "background (sidebar)," as done on this page with Microsoft Explorer 3.x.  "Table widths" are harder to control in Explorer 3.x.  If you are using Explorer 3.x to view this page, columns are probably not even.

We have recently loaded Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0x onto our machines.  All auxiliary features that come with Explorer are "unwanted" features for our machines.  Explorer 3.x adds enough unwanted "junk" and 4.0x adds even more!
