What Is It?
AD&D is a role playing game created mega-years ago by a company called TSR, Inc. You play the game with dice, statistics and your own imagination.

Why Play It?
Most people that play Advanced Dungeons and Dragons started out reading every fantasy book they could find. Some players started 20 years ago, when they were 12 or 13 years old--Some are just getting into the game now, like me.

Role Playing in itself is a great way to not only "get into" the stories you read, but I think it's an awesome way to escape from the everyday garbage for a while.

Does It Cause Suicidal or Homicidal Tendencies? Or Kill People?
Nah, that's all bogus propaganda~Psycho people kill people, whether or not they play Dungeons and Dragons, or any other role-playing game. I play, and I've never wanted to go out killing anyone with a sword or quarterstaff. (Although I wouldn't mind having a cool wand to use for turning people into toadstools sometimes...especially when they cut me off on the freeway)



Character Creation

There are basically two ways to create characters, and give them "lives". You can roll dice to get statistics and then pick what type of character you want to play. Or you can pick what you want to be, roll the dice, and role-play that character for all it's worth.

Some of the different characters you can make in AD&D are:

Elves, Half Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Haflings, etc. Fighters, Thieves, Clerics or Priests, Mages or Wizards

After you choose your type of character, and roll the dice to see how strong and smart they are, you need to pick weapon and non-weapon proficiencies. Some of these are:

Mastery of the Sword, Martial Arts, Knives and Daggers Healing, Herbalism, Spellcraft, Reading/Writing, Ancient Lore

Some classes have requirements for proficiencies you must take....Check the Players handbook to be sure.
