Nadya King
Reiki Master, LMT #1671, Ashiatsu Practitioner
I am self employed as a Massage Therapist, offering sessions by appointment at Key to Health Clinic ,
119 NE Third St in downtown McMinnville, Oregon. I received my
initial training in massage from Jeanne Christensen, LPN & LMT, who had a
private practice in McMinnville. Jeanne
& my mother Lois had each had polio, & found massage to be very helpful
in providing both pain control & general relaxation. Several of my mother’s
relatives did massage for family, including my grandmother, great aunt & at
least one aunt, & I exchanged ‘back & foot rubs’ with my
mother from early childhood. My first
official massage class was in Reflexology, several years before moving to
McMinnville.
My dad & I sang in the Choir & for
Grange & other community events, & I trace my love of music to him. Byrle
had some Cherokee heritage, & I was not surprised to discover that chants
& music are some of the most important elements in Cherokee healing
tradition. I was delighted to discover
the teachings of Dhyani Ywahoo,
Cherokee lineage keeper who founded Sunray Meditation Society.
After completing my massage training &
becoming licensed, I co-founded Key to Health in 1983, & for the next 9
years helped build a strong & well respected practice. In the spring of
1991, I joined the Healing Arts Team at Breitenbush Hot Springs Resort, just
above Detroit in the Oregon Cascades. I became a Reiki Master that year, &
initiated over 100 Breitenbush Staff members, & several dozen guests. I served a term as the head of the Healing
Arts Team, & taught Tai Chi/Qigong 2 days a week. I also learned to play the harp during my
stay at Breitenbush, & was fortunate to receive training from visiting
harpers, & often join them in Concert.
After leaving Breitenbush I spent several
years on the Oregon Coast, teaching Reiki &
doing massage, then returned to McMinnville in the spring of 1998. I practiced independently for several years,
& re-joined Key to Health in the fall of 2002. In the summer of 2005, Nan Wittke, one of the co-founders of Key to Health & I traveled
to Everett, WA to receive training in Ashiatsu ‘barefoot
massage.’ After 23 years of doing
more than 20 massage sessions a week, we are excited to use gravity & the
strength of our legs & feet to ‘balance’ the work we do with
our upper bodies!! I had studied Classical Russian style Ballet
for 5 years before studying massage, & took Tai Chi during my massage
training. I love the ‘choreography’
of the Ashiatsu sessions.
I have two grown children, & three
grand daughters, with a grandson ‘on the way.’ My kids &
grandkids live close by, & I feel fortunate to spend time with them. My oldest grand daughter is a fan of massage
& Reiki, & was excited to receive ‘foot massage’ in the
form of the gentle rocking with which we finish an Ashi session.
Other interests include dance (mostly
ballroom & swing these days), music, gardening, reading, riding my bike to
work, & spending time with my family & friends.
