At 9:30 a.m. the male swallow was an uninvolved observer as the female entered the nestbox at intervals to attack the nestlings. During the intervals between the attacks she rested on the powerline about 30 ft. from the nestbox, and he perched nearby. The blood of the nestlings could be clearly seen smeared on her throat and breast feathers.
The final attack occurred at 11:53 a.m. Forcefully using her bill, the female appeared to focus her efforts mostly about the head and neck of the young birds.
About 15 minutes later, at 12:07 p.m., they all appeared to be dead.
